😁 Congratulations to Jim Tucker for receiving the Howard C. and Mary Allene Hawk Good Citizen Award for 2024. Endowed by the Lemuel L. Hawk family in remembrance of their parents, this prestigious honor is presented annually to one of Bryan, Ohio’s distinguished citizens who has fulfilled the following qualifications: resident of Bryan for at least 20 years, served in an unpaid capacity within an organization benefiting the community, associated with at least one outstanding accomplishment for the Bryan area, and held a leadership position on a local nonprofit board.

Nominated for the award by multiple people, Jim is better known to most as “the waver”, Mr. Smiley, Bryan’s Santa, Coach Tucker, the custodian at the former Washington Elementary School, or the owner of Tucker Field. A model citizen who has served Bryan for over 60 years, Jim spreads positivity with his contagious smile and uplifting words of encouragement. Known for waving to those on their way to work or school in his driveway or on the corner of West High and Portland Streets by Parkview Hospital, Jim, in his famous smiley shirt, exemplifies that everyone can make a difference.

Called Jumpin’ Jim Tucker when he coached the little league Astros team, players still get together and talk about how much fun they had even though they didn’t win many games. But more importantly, they fondly remember the valuable lessons the sport and their coach taught them and how applicable they are now. And no matter if someone calls him Jim, Coach, Santa, Mr. Smiley, Mr. Tucker, or Bryan’s ambassador, he shows up every day to spread cheerfulness, positivity, and messages of faith as he firmly believes it’s about how he makes others feel. It is the inspiration he gives, the hope he provides, and the joy that he spreads.

Thank you, Jim, for showing up daily and sharing your message of happiness, optimism, empathy, and faith. “We’re proud of you” and grateful you remind us to “keep smiling and keep laughing” in the rain, snow, or sunshine! 👋👋
